Introduction to Season 4 Ep 3
SPEAKER_01Hello and welcome to another episode of the Family Business with the Alessis. And I'm Steve Alesi.
SPEAKER_02And I'm Mary Alese.
SPEAKER_01Yes, we are the Alessies. And the rest of the kids are working today while we're doing the podcast. We talk here uh about things we cannot talk about on Sunday, because uh, as pastors, there's certain things we can say from the pulpit, and there's certain things we just don't have time to be able to say and get into the weeds of. And um, since family is everybody's business, we want to welcome you. So, Mary, today's topic uh uh is having to do with identity.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01We have a big issue going on in the world today, and um uh a lot of people think this is a new issue that uh we're we're scrambling with who we are, who who have I been made to be, or who who does society say I am, or who do my feelings say to I am. And we have a lot of people trying to say, well, you can change your identity, or at least we get some people saying they can you can change your identity and such. And so we want to hit that subject matter. This is a big one. Tell me why you think it's such a big one.
SPEAKER_02Well, it's it's so prevalent in today's society. We're so confused as to who we are. I remember at 12 years old looking out the window, being bored in my room, saying, Who am I? Why am I here? How did I get here? I have a twin sister, is she my identity? Is my dad my identity? Is what I do? Is it my talent? Is it, you know, what I'm good at? Um, is it my femaleness? Yeah, is it your maleness? It's all of those things. And, you know, life was simpler when we had clear lines as to understanding our identity, when we had the right unit in place, the right systems in place. But because over the last 30, 35 years, I think those systems have been under attack, we are more than ever lost and we don't know who we are. And it's not, it's it's moved from I don't know who I am in this marriage, I don't know who I am in this relationship, I don't know who I am in the world, to I don't know who I am at all, even into myself. And that's the the tipping point when we've just been discussing this now constantly. Yeah. We hear it on the news, we're talking about it at church, it's it's the water cooler conversation. When it was the margins, you know, people that were those people. Now we're dealing with this topic continually and it's an issue.
SPEAKER_01Well, we we have to be careful because once now you're talking about water cooler adults talking about it, struggling with who I am, who am I. But when it comes down to our children, and it seems like certain people have an agenda behind it. Um now we got to talk about it. And we just can't talk about it every so often because people are being bombarded with this all the time. So we have already hit on aspects of this in our podcast.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_01But
Why Gender Is Still an Important Topic
SPEAKER_01here we are in our season four. We got to hit it again. We got to make sure the conversation is on point because we don't want people getting confused because of the bombardment of some agenda.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Now, a couple things. When when it comes to identity, I'm amazed at how I listen to our kids. And then I go back and I remember how I felt when I was my teens and my twenties. Uh, I hear my kids say, Oh, I am like dad.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Right? Sure. So Lauren in our family is a lot like me. Gabby in our family is a lot like me, right? And in the way that she processes and things. Um, Stephanie has her parts. Yeah, she's a lot, a lot like me, right? And we usually say in the home, well, Christopher is more like you. I got one. You got one, but also Gabby is more like you when it comes to walking in, lighting up a room.
SPEAKER_02In different ways.
SPEAKER_01Humorous, you know, fun, quick-witting. No, it's just so the the point of that is our kids are able to say amongst themselves, I'm like dad.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Or I'm like mom. That's right. And there's a certain pride to that. That's a really good thing to do. It's what you do. I remember feeling that way. I know. I'm like my dad.
How Children Gain A Sense of Identity
SPEAKER_01I wanted to be like my dad because there were so many good traits about him that I honored and I loved the strength in him, the go-getter, the founder, the pioneer. I loved that. I wanted to be like my dad. At the same time, yeah, there were things about my mom that I so loved that I wanted to be like her. Right. Her caring ways, her soft ways, her sweet ways.
SPEAKER_02Her hospitality.
SPEAKER_01Her hospitality.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Now, just because I want to be like my mom doesn't mean that I'm a woman.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so before I get before I get into that, the point I'm trying to make is we instinctively, it's natural for us to say I identify as my dad's type or like my mom. We have that identity. So what's happened? It's been uh uh the work of the dark forces of evil. Yeah, sorry, there's an enemy to our soul that wants to train wreck us all. It is all right. If he can get into our marriage and get into our business, he can get into our lives, get into our homes, he's gonna do that. Yeah, and he's not a friend. He's an enemy that wants to destroy you. Yes, takes no prisoners, no, kills their wounded.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So what does he do is he comes along this the way and he goes to work at destroying the family unit. And when he destroys the family unit, he'll pull dad out of the family unit.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_01And when he pulls dad out, who does the son identify with now? Yeah, that's true. And then you've got maybe two spouses that in the divorce are just mad at each other. So what do they do? With an earshot of the kids, they're talking nasty about the spouse, the other, the divorced spouse, what they did. They cheated, they're hurt. Maybe their own hurt has caused them to be a little too honest in front of the kids. So you just sabotaged the role model of the child who says, I identify with my dad. I can't identify with my dad, or I can't identify with my mom because my parents says they're a bad person. So they remove that person that's supposed to be there to identify with. They remove them out of the household.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_01And then what happens? Some outside influence steps in to help them identify with another person. So when I was growing up, it'd be a school teacher, a good healthy school teacher, no agenda except to teach me. Right. It would be a coach of sports, no agenda except to teach me how to play football or basketball, whatever it was I was trying to play. There were other influences in the church. It was our Royal Ranger commander, who was like a Boy Scout leader, who was there to help me be a man, grow up and learn how to light a fire, learn how to set up a tent, learn how to cook out on an open fire. All those he was helping me be a man. So I identified with him as a hero at different seasons of my life. Right. But today, because some of those institutions have been uh infiltrated with a bad agenda. Yes, a dark agenda. A dark agenda. Yeah. Now all of a sudden we've got people saying, listen, parents, you don't know your kids. Oh, you birthed them, mom, but you don't know them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we know them better than you do.
SPEAKER_01We know them better than you do. And here's who they should identify as.
SPEAKER_02Right. And when you've got a system that has worked for millions of years, where you have God's system, his plan is a man and a woman will lie together and have children and raise those children. You know, we were talking about this the other day. God could have just cloned Adam and had everybody look like Adam. He could have started with Eve and cloned Eve's. He didn't. He had he created Adam and then out of Adam he created Eve. And although this is not a he didn't create Adam and Steve message, the truth is he didn't.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_02He gave us two role models that he established within the home. And you remove one of those, and now you're out of balance. And then the the agenda, it went from is divorce okay? Will the kids be okay? Will they be all right? to, well,
How Society Attacks Our True Identity
SPEAKER_02it is still better to have mom and dad in the family. We know you need that, but now to eradicate that completely and have an agenda to say, we don't even need men. We don't even want men. Men are the patriarchy. Men have done things wrong from for thousands of years. They've there all the aggression that we're struggling with today is because of men. And if we could neutralize men and then then move on to that to just confuse all of us. I mean, one of the most unsteady things you can do in your life that creates insecurity is just start questioning the very essence of who you are from a gender perspective and not have that role model in your life to bounce that off of and go, I am like my dad. You know, you were you were saying the things about your dad that were good and they were bad. The truth is it is your father. And it's not just, that's not just a spiritual truth. This is research. Science has proven, psychology has proven that the father gives the family the identity. It is the father structure that gives the family the identity. We were talking about this this morning. If I had not had my father in my life to the point that I did, I would have naturally gravitated. This is how I am physiologically designed, I would have gravitated to my mom and her people, and to the men, my grandfather. Because naturally, the way we are wired, and you will never change the way you're wired, is that the men in your life, the grandfather, the uncle, those men are the ones that you say, that's who I came from. They're my people. And when it's just all women in your life, thank God for the women that have stepped up and raised the children.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_02But there is always something missing in the area of identity when your dad's not involved.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I want to go back to my statement though.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01About how once you removed the either physical influence of the parent or the emotional influence of the parent, once you take that away from the child, they go looking for something.
SPEAKER_02Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER_01Not just they go looking for something, but the enemy. That's right. Okay. The enemy of your soul is going to try to fill that vacuum. And he's not going to fill it with anything good. Right. All right. No. So the parent in that environment can't just say, well, hey, uh, that ex of mine or this present spouse of mine is not needed.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_01All right.
SPEAKER_02That's the point.
SPEAKER_01That you can't say they're not needed in your kid's life. They are needed. Right. And if you do move on from your marriage, you better keep them engaged somehow with your kids because your kid's identity depends on it.
SPEAKER_02That's right.
SPEAKER_01They're going to identify with their birth dad and their birth mom. It's natural. You've heard of people later on in life, Mary, going and trying to find their birth dad or mom. Absolutely. Because they want to see who they are. Do I look like them? Do I act like them? Do I have similar traits? Why? Because we all identify with the parent, the birth parent that is in our life. That's right. That's how it's supposed to be. Yes. So you can't have some confused alphabet gendered individual now trying to come in and tell our young people who they should identify with. Right. That's not their job. That's not their responsibility. It's not their role. It's out of order. And here's what I've learned a long time ago. We've got to live life. We've got to live life forward, going forward, but understand it going backwards. Yes. All right. Meaning we got to go on, go into the future. But we have to look at our past and say, wait a minute. Our past produced this. Yes, that's good. So you go backwards and say our past produced this. If our past produced this, then as we go forward, something we're doing is going to produce something in the future. And we don't know yet the extent of all this gender neutrality. We don't know what all of this is going to look like. We don't know what those who are changing their gender now, we don't know the emotional mental effects, all that's going to have. And though we have a heart for people dealing with mental health crises in their lives, I believe mental health crises happen because of something that was perpetrated to you. Right. Now you need to get rescued and helped.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01But you have to do something now to keep from you ever having a mental health crisis. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01And so we're going to change up kids' identity and tell them that they're not who they physically are as a boy or a girl. We're going to confuse them at this point. You talk about real gender confusion. We're going to confuse them at this point. They're going to have a mental health crisis in the future. They already are experiencing that. They're already doing it. That's right. So the mental health crisis crisis then is initiated by themselves, them making bad decisions at such a young age because an outflow-side influence is telling them something that's not truthful.
SPEAKER_02Right. And we're making the exact same point because I go back even from the perspective of the first layer of affecting the system. Is it, will my kids be okay if I raise them without their dad? Will my kids be okay if I raise them without their dad, their mom? I think we we we've realized after 30 years or so of our divorce rate being so high and a lot of single parenting out there. I think the test results are in. It's not better. We know based on what we are seeing statistically, mental health, uh very in very significant confidence issues in kids. And that's not to knock a single mom who did her best, a single dad who did his best. Listen, we know that stuff. There's widows out there. So we understand.
The Importance of the Right Role Models
SPEAKER_02But when you don't put at the top of your priority list, when dad's not around, the right male role models because you value the male role model in your son's life. Your son will struggle with who he gravitates to. Because the whole point of this conversation is something that you brought up earlier when we were discussing this. There is an innate wiring in us. You as a boy and me as a girl, you need male figures to be a young man, to identify as, but also not to just identify as, but to encourage you in. And I'm trying to think of the word, I can't think of the word, but affirm you. Because when we come here on Wednesday nights and we see those Royal Ranger boys, there's like 20 or 30 young young fellas that are here. And they're here to learn how to tie ropes, but they're also learning how to say a pledge and how to work as a team. And then, you know, how to how to be boys. Well, I've been in the other room and it literally sounded like thunder and lightning coming from the other room. You get girls in a room and you hear squealing and screaming and laughing. They're very, very different just in the sounds they make.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But we understood the importance of getting ahead of the plan of the enemy to try to steal, kill, and destroy, and put some measures in place that helps little boys be affirmed in being little boys and helps little girls. And I am so proud of our single parents who are saying, my kid's going in there, my daughter's going in there, because they're understanding, listen, dad might not be in your life, but that does not mean you can do this by yourself. Your son needs a male role model.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. He's got to identify with that strong male figure.
SPEAKER_02More than ever, there's an agenda to eradicate that.
SPEAKER_01So, babe, uh, a lot of what we do, everything really what we do is based on a
How The Family Unit Reveals God’s Nature
SPEAKER_01understanding of scripture. The Bible is our roadmap, it is our foundation. We're called fundamentalists because the foundation of our belief is very fundamental. It's not, we don't allow the liberal agenda or thoughts of um a more modernist uh mindset seep into the foundation of our life. So we know truth is truth, and God set it up in place, and that truth is recorded in the Bible, right? So the Bible is our our source of direction and all truth. When we look at the beginning with Adam and Eve, first we see God made the man. He literally formed him with his hands. And then he turned around and took a rib out of Adam, let him sleep, and then went over and formed, created Eve. And what was in Eve, which was uh the female, the the receiver, uh, she was unique and created by God to now complete the man. Now, at that point, you've got male and female. It even says in the scriptures, and male and female, he created them. Now, if God's plan was that we can change our gender, then at that point of creation, he would have made, in a sense, uh a plug-and-play kind of system. That all I need to do is, okay, I took the rib out of Adam to make man. Well, let me take something else. Maybe there's another gene I can just take out of Adam and put it into this other person and make that person like Adam was. Right. No, he didn't give us this plug-and-play system of our bodies. He made each gender unique for its intended purpose. So, all of this about I can change my gender, well, it's it's not true. It's it's it's a lie of the enemy. Right. Um, it's false. Doesn't matter what society may try to tell us today. No, sorry. Uh, we're even looking at commercials on television where it's a drug for AIDS, and what does it tell you? And that one state, yeah.
SPEAKER_02What? Not intended for those assigned female at birth.
SPEAKER_01So what they're saying is you're born female at birth, they're really giving their the truth out that you have to be a female, not assigned as a female, yeah, to have this particular change.
SPEAKER_02That's the most ridiculous thing.
SPEAKER_01So they're saying ever we can assign you something, even though you were made really what you are as a female.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So everyone knows the truth of that. No, uh in their right mind, they know the truth of that. But the agenda is to try to let me get this changed in you, so we know that that's not something that we can buy into. And as a a family that works together, right, that enjoys seeing our kids fully embrace who they are in God and who they are in life. Yes, we so enjoy seeing the health that they have, no confusion whatsoever about genders.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_01And we want to make sure our people understand you're listening to us today, you have an identity that first is established in God and then is affirmed by good godly people that are around you. And we would say embrace that.
SPEAKER_02Amen. And and the the the beautiful part about the community of the church is that you are surrounded by like-minded people who believe what you believe based on on a good, solid foundation of truth. And if you don't have that, we recommend that you find that. That's a that is a huge win. Something that we've dealt with over the last few months is even with parents, and it's been it's been great because we've been able to help them, but even uh a young boy as young as eight or nine was struggling with this.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And had no reason to, had no reason to, had his dad in his life, but because of the all the talk and the narrative around it, all the freedom at school and the way the it's actually went back to the way the kids were talking, almost like it was just a cool way to be, created so much instability in this little kid.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And it was really for us as Huge win to be able to come around that mom and dad and say, Don't even worry about this. Let's just help get him through this season and affirm who he is as a young man, as a little boy, and let him go play and quit talking about all this stuff that doesn't even matter right now. It's not age appropriate. Why are we forcing gender issues and sexualizing that to eight-year-olds and younger? It's not even appropriate. Nope. So the argument is not only invalid and insane, but the fact that they're trying to inject it into the next generation, all it does is reveal that it is a dark plan and a dark agenda. That's all it is. And you as a parent can turn that around. But if you do get in a great community and a great church, that's a great support system.
SPEAKER_01That's a huge support system. And that's what we want to emphasize by the time we're done today. Right. How important that is. Because we know there's a problem. How do we resolve the problem? Here's something I think is interesting. I'm talking to Gabby and Christopher yesterday. We're having a uh a work meeting, and something came up in the conversation. And so Gab said, uh, or Christopher, one of the others, said something like, Hey, um, when I looked at dad, he reminded me of God the Father.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So he's saying, Dad reminded me of God the Father. And I can I can remember that growing up. I remember in my mind, the physical father was God.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Then Gabby says, and I looked at Gabby, I said, Yeah, Gabs, okay, perfect. Then she says, but mom to me is the Holy Spirit. Mom's role, more uh convicting, caring. Let me show you something here, loving, advocating, advocating. There you go. She that's that's the the not the so much of authority, but now let me come in and help you get this right, more caring, tender, and so forth. So then I said to them, Well, who's Jesus?
SPEAKER_02This is great.
SPEAKER_01And Gabby says, Well, actually, I I see my brothers and sisters as Jesus.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's like, wow. Right in the family unit, yes, we see the Godhead represented.
SPEAKER_02The Trinity, yes.
SPEAKER_01God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. And somebody says, Oh, well, Jesus, we need to see Jesus. Well, Jesus even says in the Bible, when you've seen me, you've seen the Father. He says, When you pray, don't pray to me any longer, pray through me to get to the Father. Everything the Holy Spirit does and the Son does is to get us to look to the Father.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So here's here's the family structure. You've got the Father who represents God.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You take the Father out, there's no understanding of God. No. So now you see what the enemy's trying to do. That's right. This isn't just about I love you, I don't love you. He cheated on me, or he didn't talk to me the right way. We don't get along. Our goals have changed in life. No, no, no. This is so much deeper. The enemy's like, no, let me get in there and jack this up because what you don't see in your anger and your short-sightedness is that the kids that are behind you are not going to be able to identify with God. Right.
SPEAKER_02Wow. That's crazy, man. I mean, you zoom way out of that, way out, and you see that the plan of the dark side, the evil one, is really to um destroy the image of God in our minds and in our hearts. That's what he's after. And he can easily do it. We're easy pickings when you get rid of the father.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Again, I know I don't I know usually preach too much when we're in the podcast. But this is a good one. But this is truth. Okay, so go back to the first Adam and Eve. Why is it so important to get the God issue fixed first in your kids? Yeah. In your own life, in your kids' life and family. Adam and Eve, go back to them, right? So God says to them, okay, you have you have access to everything in the garden except this tree.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_01Don't eat of the trees, or else your eyes
How To Find Security in Your God Given Identity
SPEAKER_01will be open. All right. There's something God didn't want them to see. So he said, Don't go there. So this revelation that your eyes won't be open to this. Eve's out and about. The enemy comes to her, and he says to her, So what do you go about doing? She goes, Oh, we're out here doing our deal, but we can't eat of any tree. And he says, Why can't you eat of this tree? And she told him, Because our eyes would be open. We're told that our eyes would be open. And he says to her, No, you can't eat of that tree because God knows that then you will be like God. Like God. All right. What does he go after? Their identity. Yes. He immediately attacks, oh, you're not a human. Now you're a God. So don't touch that, or else you could be something else. That's right. This is not new in 2022 or 2023. No, it's not. This is not new. It's not. This goes back to the beginnings of time. Yes. Because the enemy's game is to get you and I disconnected from our creator and our God.
SPEAKER_02That's it.
SPEAKER_01And if he can do that, then he's pretty much one. So part of that disconnection is going to be let me destroy the family unit. Let me get the male or the female out. Let me let me come against society right now because man is evil, man is abusive, man is controlling. Oh, everything's wrong with men. And then they want to empower women, strong women, to the point that they're trying to put on a man's suit and man's clothes and act like men when God made them to be women. And if they could all just accept who we are, made to be, celebrate each other, we're not going to have this confusion, which then's going to create a very happy, healthy, uh, happy, healthy household and family, which should be your first priority. That's right. And then that thing can spill over into other areas of your life. That's right. Mary, we got to get people on the right path here. And here's how I believe we do it. If families are separated, divorced, they don't have the right structure in the home, and kids are struggling with their identity because they're going to school, they're seeing on social media, hearing on television that you can be something you're not. Right. If that confusion is there, you gotta have the influence of the church in your life. Yes, you do.
SPEAKER_02The church more than ever.
SPEAKER_01I'm not talking about the Mother Church of Rome. I'm talking about a good Christian church. Here it's Metro Life Church. Family values. Metro Life Church here in South Florida. That's right. Wherever you may hear this, you you've got to find a good Christian church that shares family values. It doesn't have to be the coolest church in town.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_01But it's got to share family values, biblical values that will help you, number one, understand who you are in God. Also have great role models. Yeah. Men and women. That's what I love about you and I. We're wonderful. We work on being a role model before our people. You are strong, baby. You get up and you lead. You are empowered to lead. Absolutely. I'm strong. I'm empowered to lead. We don't have this confusion. We don't tell the woman, just sit down and shut up. No, in this house, you stand up, you're using your gifts and talents. Our girls and our son and son-in-law are using their talents and their right places. We all work together like it's supposed to be. You need that church value environment. Yeah. Because if you don't have that, you're going to find yourself just open for these attacks of the enemy, listening to the wrong voices, and it's going to create so much confusion. Oh, yeah. And again, we live our lives going forward, but ultimately we really should be doing it going backwards. How did that work in the past? Don't make that same mistake going forward again.
SPEAKER_02And what we find out about history is we don't learn from it. If
Closing Thoughts
SPEAKER_02we don't really go back, every generation, babes, go back. Every single generation.
SPEAKER_01They all got it.
